One of the factors that makes a mine operation successful is the vehicle fleet for moving material and transporting people around the mine.
According to Nathi Nzimande, Kumba Iron Ore’s section manager for pit services, it is possible to have over 150 trucks and 600 bakkies operating simultaneously at a mine. This creates high probability that vehicle-related incidents can occur.
To avoid the occurrence of such incidents, Kumba has created separate roads for the bakkies and large trucks at its operations.
